US Social Media Personality Penalized Following Large-Scale Electric Bike Gathering on Iconic Australian Bridge
New South Wales authorities have issued a fine against an American social media personality and served two traffic infringement notices for reported reckless operation after a swarm of electric bicycle users converged on the famous Sydney landmark during the busy commute on Tuesday.
The Event: A Prohibited Ride
A gathering of approximately 40 people riding electric bikes and motorbikes proceeded along the primary roadway of the bridge, an area where bicycle riding is banned. The assembly then turned around and rode through the city’s CBD and Haymarket.
"This had potential for people to be injured and killed," stated a senior police official David Driver on the following day.
Police said they did not chase right away the group due to safety concerns but instead located the group at a scenic Sydney lookout near the city gardens, where they dispersed.
Penalties Issued for Content Creator
Later in the week, police announced they had issued the US social media influencer known as the influencer, twenty-six, with two violation tickets for careless operation (with no death or previous bodily harm), carrying a fine of $562 and three demerit points per notice, in relation to the bridge ride-out. Officials noted that the investigation is ongoing.
The influencer reportedly has more than 3.4 million followers on YouTube and over 1.2m on the social media app.
Influencer's Comments
The online figure spoke with a local publication this week following the event spread rapidly on digital platforms, stating he regretted giving "the biking community" a bad reputation.
"I’ll probably take responsibility. That was one of the safest gatherings I’ve ever seen," he told the publication. "I’m coming here as a guest, so I’m going to abide by the laws and norms of the city. When I decided to do a meet and greet it was not meant to include a group ride, it was just to greet people near the bridge."
"I did not know the area well, I am to blame we ended up on the bridge and I had a decision to make: whether the group completes the entirety of the bridge and comes back, an illegal act. Or we turn around, essentially, before entering the bridge. I chose at the time to turn around."
Broader Context on E-Bike Regulation
The increase of e-bikes on streets across the country has prompted growing calls for stricter rules. The federal health minister, the minister, recently said that non-compliant electric bikes were a "total menace on the road."
"Kids have done stupid things on bikes ever since the penny-farthing [but] the harm that are coming into our hospital emergency departments are truly severe," he said. "We’ve got to make sure we prevent these things coming into the country [and] police are given the powers to take strong action, to take them away, to destroy them, to destroy them."
The state reported 226 injuries related to electric bikes in the previous year. But, in the first seven months of 2025, that figure surged to 233 injuries plus four deaths.
