The Hit Drama Announced for Seventh Series on the British Broadcaster

Line of Duty cast members
Vicky McClure are set to reprise their roles in the popular crime series

The acclaimed crime series Line of Duty will make a comeback for its 7th installment, announced by the BBC.

A brand new six-episode season created by Jed Mercurio starts production in Northern Ireland in the coming months, as confirmed by the network.

The actress expressed excitement about the return, stating she was "so excited" about the show's renewal. Adrian Dunbar remarked, "What a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be back filming together next year."

The previous season concluded in recent years with a final episode that drew in more than 17 million audience members. Rumors about a new season have been widespread for some time, but confirmation only arrived recently.

New Challenges for AC-12

The seventh season will open with the anti-corruption unit no longer existing and rebranded as the new police oversight body, as revealed by production details.

Steve Arnott, Kate Fleming, and Ted Hastings continue tasked to combat misconduct within the law enforcement.

Their work "faces unprecedented challenges", and in this climate, the trio will take on their "most delicate case so far."

New Character and Complex Case

A new character, Det Insp Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charismatic officer known for busts of organized crime, is accused of abusing his position to act as a offender.

However, this investigation could be a intentional diversion from a larger danger still active in the background, plot details hinted.

Speaking about the renewal, Jed Mercurio commented: "Everyone involved are deeply thankful to the show's fans."

"It's an honor to have had countless followers track the ups and downs of AC-12 over multiple series and we couldn't be more delighted to be returning for a seventh season."

He added: "Misconduct in this country was thought to be over while the series was not airing, so I've been forced to use my creativity."

Cast Reactions

Martin Compston described being part of the series as "the role of a career".

"Not only the program's popularity but the colleagues I've collaborated with I now call some of my closest friends."

"I can't wait to pull the waistcoat on again and reunite with everyone," he added.

Vicky McClure remarked: "It goes without saying I'm very happy the show is back! Can't wait to work with the creator, Martin and Dunbar again. The city, we'll see you soon!"

The veteran actor commented: "As we count down the AC-12 days of Christmas, how exciting it is to know that the Three Amigos will be back filming soon."

"Delighted with the announcement and looking forward to those unexpected twists and turns."

Series Legacy

The drama premiered in the early 2010s and evolved into one of the most popular television series of the past ten years, attracting notable actors such as Lennie James.

Broadcasters haven't revealed exactly the upcoming series will hit screens.

The finale of series six drew the extended plot about the search for kingpin known as "H" to a conclusion, and producers said at the time there were no plans for additional seasons.

However, the network announced on Tuesday that a new season is now being produced.
