Slot Asserts He Is Safe and Retains Liverpool's Backing After PSV Eindhoven Humiliation
Arne Slot conceded that it's expected for questions to be raised about his future after a further convincing loss versus PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds endured their ninth loss in twelve matches, marking the team's worst streak since being relegated in 1953-54.
They were outplayed by the Eredivisie champions on a difficult night at Anfield.
“I am feeling safe, I am OK, I've received significant backing from above,” Slot commented.
“It would be great to reverse this trend and secure a win naturally but when you're in a managerial role and not doing well then it's expected that questions are asked.”
He continued, “I'm comfortable with my situation. It is not the first time I’ve been in a tough spot but it's crucial that we turned it around.”
Talks with Club Management
Upon being questioned to provide details on his conversations with the team officials, the head coach explained:
“We communicate frequently. They are supportive for the squad and for me and those talks happen but they aren't calling me every single minute of the day to say they have faith in me.”
He mentioned, “Through standard exchanges I sense the trust. But I haven’t spoken to them after this defeat yet so we'll see.”
Familiar Problems and Player Reaction
The manager highlighted recurring shortcomings from his squad in their Champions League defeat, specifically poor finishing and leaking goals.
Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was blunter in his view of the club’s predicament.
“I haven't got the answers. Frankly, I don’t. I'm telling that to all,” Jones said.
“It is not good enough. I don’t even have to wait to reflect. I'm beyond getting mad internally. I've reached the stage currently where I simply lack the vocabulary.”
He added, “It's difficult because I play for the team I support. I’m a fan, and I've watched this club all my life.”
“In recent memory, I've not seen a Liverpool team enduring a phase of this nature with outcomes like these.”
Jones finished, “But we still have that badge on our shirts. And as long as that badge is gone, we'll continue to compete.”
“We’re going to try to help the side back to where it needs to be, demonstrate to all again what Liverpool stands for and the reason it's called the greatest side in the planet.”
“However currently, we’re in the shit and it must improve.”
