Palestinian-American Teenager Freed Following Nine Months in Israel's Custody

An American-Palestinian teenager after completing 270 days in Israel's custody without charge gained freedom.

Mohammed Ibrahim was fifteen years old at the time of his arrest last February in the Israeli-occupied West Bank, during a family visit on holiday from Florida under suspicion of rock throwing toward Israeli settlers, claims he consistently denied.

The US state department said it welcomed the news of Mohammed's release.

Now sixteen years old, needed medical care right after being freed, family members reported.

They said he is showing signs of malnutrition, and is suffering from conditions contracted in captivity.

Via family representatives, Mohammed's uncle spoke of the family's "tremendous relief".

Family member Zeyad Kadur stated the family experienced "enduring a dreadful, continuous nightmare" during the entire detention period.

"At this moment, we are focused on providing Mohammed with urgent medical care he requires following exposure to Israel's abuse and brutal treatment for months."

US officials stated they would maintain to offer diplomatic assistance to Mohammed's family.

{"American leadership gives utmost importance to ensuring the safety of American nationals"," it added.

Twenty-seven US lawmakers submitted a formal letter to diplomatic officials and the White House, urging greater action to release him.

The father, parent of four children managing a frozen treats business from Florida, previously said Mohammed acknowledged allegations regarding stone throwing because the soldiers beat him.

There were no visits nor direct contact following the detention, learning information solely regarding the treatment via legal paperwork.

Mohammed was held without charge within Ofer penitentiary in the West Bank.
