Chiefs Confirm Domestic Violence Claims Involving Wide Receiver Rashee Rice
The NFL franchise issued a statement on Wednesday evening indicating they are aware of domestic violence allegations circulated in social media posts by a ex-partner of player Rashee Rice and were in communication with the league office.
The team did not mention Rice by name in their announcement and noted they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.
Allegations Shared on Instagram
Dacoda Nichole Jones, who also did not mention the athlete by name, shared a set of images on social media that appeared to show indicators of bodily harm. Jones did say the person involved was the parent of her kids, and it is known she has kids with the football player, whom the Chiefs drafted in the second round.
Police Reports Reportedly Unavailable
No police reports were available in the Kansas City suburb where the alleged abuse is said to have taken place.
Rice's Recent Off-Field Troubles
The receiver missed the first six games of this NFL campaign following an NFL suspension for his involvement in instigating a crash on a Dallas highway that resulted in several individuals hurt. Rice was sentenced 30 days in jail and probationary supervision after entering a guilty plea to serious offenses.
On the field, he finished the season with 53 receptions for 571 yards and five TDs as the Kansas City finished 6-11 and missed the playoffs for the first occasion in a decade.
