The original creators behind the famous ice cream brand Ben and Jerry's has stated how corporate owner the multinational conglomerate stopped the introduction for an innovative pro-Palestinian ice cream flavor.

Ben Cohen, that established the business alongside his partner, disclosed how he will independently develop this new flavor within a personal collection highlighting issues the company has been prevented from addressing publicly.

Longstanding Dispute Involving Founders and Corporate Owner

This latest development intensifies the continuing conflict among the world-famous ice cream maker with its corporate parent, the British packaged goods giant which has owned the ice cream brand since 2000.

The co-founders have claimed that Unilever and its ice cream arm the Magnum brand unlawfully blocked their company against "honouring its social mission".

Watermelon Sorbet as a Symbol of Solidarity

Mr. Cohen revealed through an Instagram video that he is creating a new watermelon-based frozen dessert, requesting public suggestions for the product's name plus potential ingredients.

“I'm doing what they couldn't,” Mr. Cohen stated in a cooking set. “I'm making a watermelon-based frozen dessert that calls for permanent peace for Palestinians and calls for addressing the harm that was done there.”

The watermelon has emerged as an emblem of support for the Palestinian people because of its coloration, which closely resemble the colors in Palestine's national banner – the distinctive four-color pattern.

Previous Activism and Recent Changes

Several years ago, Ben & Jerry's ceased sales of their merchandise in territories occupied by Israel, leading to Unilever selling their Israel business to a local licensee, thereby permitting continued sales in disputed territories.

The new product line will be created through Mr. Cohen's personal brand, the socially conscious dessert company which originally established several years back for endorsing ex- US presidential candidate Senator Sanders via the flavor "Bernie's Return".

Management Changes and Future Intentions

Mr. Cohen stated how he plans to develop other ice cream flavors focusing on concerns which Ben & Jerry's was prevented from speaking about openly due to Unilever.

The announcement follows partner Jerry Greenfield resigned from Ben & Jerry's recently, after many years of involvement, mentioning concerns that its independence had been compromised after corporate moves to curb its social activism.

At that time, Mr. Cohen commented how “My partner has a really big heart and this conflict with our parent company was breaking it."

"My heart leads me to continue to work within the organization to advocate for its independence so that it can achieve its ethical purpose, the values which established its foundation and has maintained for over 40 years," he told journalists.
