A Ton of Anime News Dropped During the Holidays

The Christmas holidays present a wealth of pastimes much better than catching up on the latest news: unwrapping gifts, getting stuffed on delicious food, and employing meditation skills to not yelling at family members. I hope you were able to accomplish all these things and more. However, the world of entertainment doesn't take a break, and this is particularly true for the realm of anime. Numerous thrilling announcements emerged during the holidays, and should you missed some of them, here is a roundup of the most exciting bits.

The One-Punch Man Series Season 3 Is Set to Continue (Come 2027)

Truly the most surprising piece of news, the notorious troubled production that was season 3 of One-Punch Man proved insufficient to deter the series' continuation. The show will come back with a subsequent part in 2027—so far away they might as well have dubbed it season 4. Even more shocking, animation studio J.C. Staff will still be leading the project. At least this time, director Shinpei Nagai is set to direct from the beginning, which could be taken as a hopeful indicator. However, the main art for the new episodes is identical to the one used for season 3, just with protagonists Saitama and Garou looking opposite ways. This makes me think that, nowadays, they are probably mocking the fans.

Ruri Dragon Is Set to Be the Premiere Shonen Jump Anime From Kyoto Animation

Kyoto Animation has built a name for being an top-tier animation studio, making its mark not just for the exceptional quality of its output but for the good working conditions of its employees—a uncommon practice in the industry. Curiously, until now, it had not produced an anime adapted from a manga from Shonen Jump, arguably the most famous magazine in the business. Ruri Dragon will change that, and what a superb choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo achieved massive popularity when it launched in 2022 after just a handful of installments, but then went into a extended pause due to the mangaka's health issues. When it resumed publication with a lighter schedule, the series demonstrated it maintained the fans' support and enthusiasm, and now everyone is ecstatic about the upcoming KyoAni adaptation.

Kingdom Season 6 Is Getting a Follow-Up In Production

Kingdom is the top-selling, epic Shueisha manga that is aside from One Piece. If you've are unfamiliar with it before, it's because it only just received an English translation, but the anime has been airing for some time, and its sixth season was yet another stellar entry. Apparently that was just the first half, because a "sequel" has been announced as currently being made, and it will very likely premiere in 2026.

Science Saru Is Bringing A Witch in Mongolia To Anime

A further studio renowned for the excellent quality of its productions, Science Saru has brought us critically acclaimed works of the caliber of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, most recently, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be handling the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, inspired by the real historical figure of Fatima, an powerful woman and thinker in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Judging from the trailer, the anime called Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a truly original and captivating visual style, which reminds me a bit of Ranking of Kings. Debuting in July 2026, this one will without a doubt be on my list of anticipated shows.

The Tougen Anki Series Is Set to Continue With a Season Two

Immediately following the airing of its twenty-fourth episode, it was announced that Tougen Anki will be receiving a second season. Based on the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki adapts the manga by Yura Urushibara. The second season of the anime will cover the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a firm premiere date has not been disclosed yet.
